Mama's Notes
Hambela, in Ethiopia’s Guji region, is shaped by smallholder farmers cultivating coffee at high altitudes of 1,900–2,100 MASL, where cool temperatures slow cherry maturation and deepen flavour development. Farms are small and diverse, growing a mix of JARC-selected varieties alongside indigenous landraces, preserving both quality and genetic heritage. Natural processing is the method of choice, with whole cherries dried under the sun to amplify sweetness and complexity in the cup. The result is a coffee that reflects Hambela’s elevation, varietal richness, and time-honoured practices — expressive, layered, and unmistakably Ethiopian.
